2018 | From the Ground Up is an homage to the architecture and experience of the cemetery, a space where objects and epitaphs ignite the imagination. Simple stones detail past lives with text and symbols, and mausoleums serve as modest recreations of grand architecture from around the world. From the Ground Up combines the colors and patterns of stained glass—so often present in the architecture of death—with a greenhouse, a place where life begins. This inversion of cemetery architecture brings the inside out into the open with the light and color serving to honor both individuals laid to rest here and the uniquely beautiful character of the cemetery environment.
