Better, Faster, Stronger

2013 | Better, Faster, Stronger explores the contemporary industrial food production system and recent discussions surrounding “real” vs. “manufactured” food products within the context of the energy and nutrition bars marketed to healthy eaters and sports enthusiasts. Better, Faster, Stronger presents 12 name-brand energy bars, molded and cast in bronze, alongside text taken from the product packaging. Presenting the bars in bronze gives them importance and an honored form of longevity (along with a beautifully inedible presentation), while isolating fragments of text from the product packaging highlights absurd claims of performance and nutrition value of these often highly-processed edibles. Sample text fragments include, “natural flavor with other natural flavors,” “70% organic,” “don’t waste your workout’” and “one serving of fruit and vegetable according to the USDA food guide pyramid.”
